In this meeting of the IAS Person-Centred Care (PCC) Research Collaborative, participants explored the latest evidence and research gaps with regards to the management of HIV, non-communicable diseases and other health needs to support the quality of life of the growing cohort of older people living and ageing with HIV. Presenters provided an overview of the latest context-specific screening tools and effective interventions to delay onset of and treat existing frailty, non-communicable diseases and cognitive impairment, including gender-specific considerations. The discussion highlighted the need to create awareness about the increasing number of people ageing with HIV and their complex health and quality of life support needs. Given the significant gap in the number of trained geriatricians globally, nurse- and peer-led primary healthcare services will have to scale significantly to provide the comprehensive screening and community support needed for these populations.
