Racism as a driver of HIV: From lived experience to structural change

Black and Indigenous communities bear a disproportionate burden of HIV across the Americas and beyond. This is not because of behaviour, but because of racism embedded in economic structures, health systems and research priorities. This session will centre the lived experience of those most affected while drawing on data that makes the structural dimensions of racism visible. Speakers will explore what decolonizing HIV programming means in practice, how racism can be measured and monitored within health systems, and what meaningful accountability from governments, researchers and funders would look like.
