IAS 2025 – the 13th International AIDS Society Conference on HIV Science (Kigali, Rwanda, 13–17 July) – convened at a critical juncture, highlighting urgent challenges, including the severe impact of US policy shifts and cuts to foreign aid, while also showcasing latest developments in HIV science, including African-led innovation, promising long-acting HIV prevention tools and implementation strategies, and strides and setbacks in paediatric and adolescent care. IAS 2025 also saw the rise of the Kigali Declaration - a global call to action to urge governments, multilateral organisations, philanthropic actors, private sectors, and civil society to recommit to five core principles to revive the HIV response and restore global solidarity in the face of funding cuts. Following the public release of HIV science presented at IAS 2025, this webinar explored a critical challenge as the HIV response rethinks, rebuilds, and rises: how to communicate scientific evidence in ways that inspire continued investment in proven HIV prevention and treatment strategies.
Speakers and panellists from across the research, implementation and advocacy spectrum explored and shared strategies and experiences in science communication and reporting, highlighting key pitfalls and adaptive methods to translate scientific evidence to media and policy audiences. Moderated by the Bhekisisa Centre for Health Journalism, the webinar delivered practical insights and approaches to translate scientific evidence into stories that drive change.
