Person-Centred Care Research Collaborative: Mental health and HIV

In June 2025, the Person-Centred Care (PCC) Research Collaborative met to explore the current evidence base on PCC approaches to mental health and HIV. Presentations spanned evidence for specific mental health interventions for people living with HIV, like the “Friendship Bench”, which originated in Zimbabwe, and the adoption of trauma-informed care in primary healthcare settings in the southeastern United States. Regional perspectives were also shared from Asia and Latin America, reflecting on the mental health support needs of specific populations, including trans people and sex workers. Participants were asked to reflect on research gaps and priorities for evidence generation regarding the tailoring and integration of mental health in HIV prevention and treatment settings.
